The Department of STEM supports inclusive and innovative learning in math, science, computer science, and integrated STE(A)M programming across the district.
About the role
The STE(A)M School Specialist will plan and implement strategies to improve and expand STE(A)M integration within their assigned school. This role supports teachers in developing instructional materials and implementing STE(A)M approaches, ensuring core content and practices in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are embedded in instruction. The Specialist will also provide professional learning opportunities and coordinate community engagement to promote a whole-school STE(A)M approach.
Direct impact will be measured in the following areas: Instructional Approach, STE(A)M Career Pathways, External Partnerships, and integration of engineering and computer science across non-STE(A)M disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Academic Support: Support Tier 1 learning experiences to prepare students for success in advanced STEM coursework (science, math, computer science).
- Professional Learning: Develop, monitor, and implement a Professional Learning Plan (PLP) to ensure whole-school adoption of STE(A)M instructional practices.
- Instructional Coaching: Serve as a subject matter expert, consultant, and coach to teachers, supporting the integration of STE(A)M-aligned practices.
- Instructional Resources: Ensure teachers have access to necessary resources for implementing STE(A)M practices in classrooms and throughout the school.
- Partnerships & Community Engagement: Promote STE(A)M awareness through partnerships and activities with families and community members to enhance academic achievement.
- Enrichment Program Support: Support STEM-related enrichment opportunities to generate student interest and exposure to STEM fields and careers.
- Professional Growth & Reflection: Participate in STEM Specialist PLCs, check-ins, and professional learning focused on refining instructional leadership, sharing practices, analyzing data, and sustaining collaboration.
