Stationary Engineer Technician (Relief)-Montgomery County

Maintains and operates

• Stationary steam boilers, pumps and related equipment such as water softeners, air compressors, water treatment systems and associated piping, chillers, tower and auxiliary systems.
• Performs daily chemical water treatment of the boilers to insure proper running of equipment.
• Abides by and enforces all safety rules and regulations, State and local in order to keep boiler house safe.
• Keeps the boiler house and immediate surrounding area clean and up to Jefferson's facilities standards.

Supports Facilities Department

• Occasionally required to perform general mechanical and minor electrical/HVAC work in support of the Facilities department and local building needs.

Operates and Maintains

• Operates and maintains boilers as well as chiller and auxiliary systems by reading meters/pressure gauges and taking necessary appropriate action to ensure safe operation.
• Repacks valves, changes piping, and lubricates compressors, pumps and related parts on a regular basis.
• Starts, stops, adjusts and regulates boilers and associated equipment as necessary to insure efficiency and continuity of service.

Cleaning and Inspection

• Cleans boilers, waterside and fire side, annually or as required, to meet code and regulation requirements.
• Maintains record of gages and meter readings to determine fuel and steam consumption, steam produced, hot water and chilled/condensed water temperature, chiller operating pressure, etc.
• Performs daily inspection of boilers, pipelines, and operating equipment for steam, water, air and fuel leaks or defective parts.

Communications and Reporting

• Consults with and keeps Lead/Chief Stationary Engineers apprised of activities, needs and issues as they arise.

Other Maintenance Needs

• Performs other maintenance needs as required and directed by the supervisor or lead technician.
