About the Role

A Stationary Engineer performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, lighting, power, water, water treatment, and other mechanical systems in a County hospital, institution, large office building, or complex of buildings. This role may also involve instructing or leading other engineers and resident workers.

Responsibilities

  • Follow oral and written directions and demonstrate mechanical ability.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Install, operate, and repair various types of equipment in the plants.
  • Read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Lay out work for others and direct them in tasks.
  • Analyze situations accurately and take effective actions.
  • Maintain and adjust temperatures for different buildings to ensure comfort.
  • Demonstrate initiative, dependability, good judgment, and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Exhibit behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
  • Perform all other related job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5 to 7 years of related experience.
  • High School diploma is required.
  • Valid license or certification as needed, based on the job or specialty.

  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Effective communication in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  • Knowledge and skill in the use of job-appropriate technology and software applications.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements

  • Extended walking or standing.
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladder, stoop, bend, crawl, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.
  • Lift, push, or pull objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
  • Visual acuity for operating machines or motor vehicles and performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks.

Environmental Conditions

  • Fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations.
