About the role

This part-time Stationary Engineer position with the Office of Administration Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction (OA-FMDC) supports the Operations Team. OA-FMDC is committed to strengthening the State’s investments while providing a safe and secure environment through innovative design solutions and excellent customer service. The role involves the operation, maintenance, and oversight of mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and high-pressure steam plants, ensuring facilities remain compliant with agency and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize excellent customer service for a diverse network of internal and external stakeholders, including state agencies, officials, contractors, and the public.
  • Perform high-quality, accurate work relating to the 24/7 operation, maintenance, repair, and oversight of boilers, chillers, high-pressure steam plants, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative tasks, including compiling reports on monthly utility usage, water sampling, testing and adjusting equipment, and ordering parts and supplies.
  • Participate in operational administration, such as monitoring inventory, recommending outside contractors, creating job specifications, preparing bids, and overseeing work and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, and complete preventative and corrective maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Follow all OA-FMDC health and safety protocols and OSHA standards.
  • Ensure facilities remain in compliance with agency programmatic requirements.
  • Answer emergency calls and occasionally travel to other facilities to provide coverage and assistance.
  • Provide after-hours and emergency coverage at state facilities (e.g., severe weather, snow removal, water leaks, fire) to ensure facilities and grounds are properly maintained.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and operate with integrity to build trust with a diverse group of stakeholders and the public.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and execute numerous time-sensitive projects independently or as part of a team using specialized trade procedures and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of operations, maintenance, and repair of boilers, chillers, high-pressure steam plants, and other mechanical equipment, including generators, electronic controls, meters, pumps, and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex technical documentation and manuals to solve problems.
  • Ability to assess whether projects can be completed in-house or require a contractor.
  • Safety-first mindset with knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • OSHA 10 and/or 30 certification preferred (FMDC can provide if needed).
  • Excellent attendance, work ethic, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from Missouri or an adjacent state if residing outside Missouri.
  • Successful background check (including name, fingerprints, and other screenings) required for employment.
  • Authorization to work in the United States (no work visa sponsorship provided).

Qualifications

Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis for denying consideration to any applicant. The position is physically demanding, with duties that may include prolonged periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, driving, climbing ladders, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, working in inclement weather, and working on uneven or elevated surfaces.
