About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot the hospital's mechanical, electrical, and utility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and continuous operation of the facility. This role supports patient care and regulatory compliance by maintaining critical infrastructure systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and hospital policies.

This is the full performance level of work involving the operation and maintenance of all plant machinery, including machinery rated in excess of 500 horsepower. The position may provide technical guidance and review work completed by other maintenance staff but does not supervise other positions. This role receives general supervision from a Maintenance Chief, Maintenance Supervisor, or other designated authority.

This position is assigned to day, evening, night, or rotating shifts and may require working weekends and holidays. Work involves lifting heavy mechanical equipment and apparatus and may be performed in areas of extreme heat and cold.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and utility systems.
  • Ensure safe, reliable, and continuous operation of facility infrastructure.
  • Maintain critical systems in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and hospital policies.
  • Provide technical guidance and review work completed by other maintenance staff.

Requirements

  • Completion of the Eighth grade.
  • Two years of experience in a boiler room facility tending a boiler.
  • Current license as a Stationary Engineer, First Grade from the State Board of Stationary Engineers.
  • Some positions may require a medical examination to certify ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09.

Qualifications

Substitution Notes:

  • Candidates may substitute additional licensed stationary engineering experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience as a non-commissioned officer in Steelworker classifications or Mechanical Maintenance specialty codes in the Metal Fabrication, Assembly, Installation, and Repair field on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Universal CFC certificate.
  • Experience in a boiler room facility tending a boiler.
  • Experience working in a commercial or hospital facility.
