About the role

The Stationary Engineer 1st Grade position at Houston Methodist Hospital is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all fixed building equipment, including the Central Utility Plant (CUP), within the hospital campus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain code compliance, safety, and comfort of patients, staff, and visitors while focusing on energy management.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair hospital building equipment and CUP to ensure current hospital codes and operational standards are met.
  • Provide guidance and training to other maintenance personnel on proper operations, maintenance, and repair of various systems and equipment.
  • Assist other maintenance staff, as needed, to meet the needs of the department.
  • Operate various equipment and building systems to meet operational and code requirements with a focus on minimizing energy consumption.
  • Conduct periodic readings of assigned equipment, enter pertinent information to comply with hospital and code requirements, and respond appropriately to unusual readings and activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and equipment repairs using hospital procedures, manufacturer equipment manuals, and proper tools and techniques.
  • Assist leadership with the selection of new and replacement building systems and equipment to meet the needs of the hospital.
  • Participate in in-services programs and continuing education to support personal and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Five years experience as a Stationary Engineer.
  • Required SE-1 - 1st Grade Stationary Engineer - City License - City of Houston_PSV City of Houston.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
  • Functional knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing operations, building automation systems, life safety systems, emergency power systems, structural systems, and boiler systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of all levels of boiler systems and/or equipment.
  • Ability to operate in a large facility environment and function as a resource for staff on various and complex boiler-related equipment.
