What You Will Be Doing
The Stationary Engineer, 2nd Class serves as the engineer in charge, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of high-pressure boiler systems and associated equipment. In this critical role, you will:
- Oversee daily boiler plant operations, implementing and enforcing procedures that meet stringent safety standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
- Monitor system performance, coordinate maintenance and inspections, and proactively address operational or safety concerns to maintain optimal reliability.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, ensuring full compliance with Massachusetts laws and industry standards while maintaining accurate operational records and logbooks.
- Help drive continuous improvement, operational excellence, and a culture of safety across the plant through strong communication with facility leadership.
What You Bring
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- 5+ years of experience in boiler and steam plant operations.
- 2nd Class Engineer License required.
- Facilities management and HVAC system knowledge preferred.

Experience Overseeing High-Pressure Boiler Systems
To ensure safe operation and compliance with regulatory requirements, I would:
- Regularly review and update operating procedures to align with current safety standards and regulations.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks to identify potential issues early and prevent failures.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop and implement corrective actions for identified problems.
- Stay informed about new technologies and best practices in boiler and steam plant operations to enhance efficiency and safety.
Identifying and Resolving Issues
In one instance, I identified a leak in a high-pressure boiler system that was causing excessive water consumption and potential safety hazards. To resolve this issue, I:
- Conducted a thorough investigation to determine the root cause of the leak.
- Worked with the maintenance team to replace the faulty components and install a new pressure gauge to monitor system performance.
- Updated the maintenance schedule to include regular inspections of all boiler systems.
- Communicated the findings and corrective actions to facility leadership to ensure everyone was aware of the situation and the steps being taken to prevent recurrence.
