POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Psychiatric Director to provide statewide clinical leadership and psychiatric oversight for correctional healthcare services throughout the state of Kansas. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing psychiatric services across multiple correctional facilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based behavioral healthcare to an underserved patient population. The Statewide Psychiatric Director will collaborate closely with facility leadership, medical providers, behavioral health teams, and operational partners to support clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, provider mentorship, and continuity of care across the system. This position combines direct clinical oversight with strategic leadership and program development.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Kansas
  • Board Certified in Psychiatry
  • Valid unrestricted DEA License
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Knowledge of managed healthcare systems, medical quality assurance, quality improvement and risk management
  • Experience in launching and managing innovative medical programs including developing, conducting, and evaluating program audits
  • Experience working with information technology staff to implement and manage sophisticated practice management and/or EHR software packages
  • Leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with use of Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Supportive team member who contributes to and demonstrates teamwork and team concept
  • Able to deal tactfully with personnel, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
  • Led, supervised, and supported psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and behavioral health staff
  • Participated in quality improvement initiatives, peer review activities, and utilization management processes
  • Aid with provider recruitment, onboarding, retention, and performance management
  • Reviewed complex psychiatric cases and provided clinical consultation as needed
  • Supported crisis intervention efforts and behavioral health programming initiatives
  • Analyzed clinical data and trends to identify opportunities for operational and clinical improvement
  • Maintained appropriate clinical documentation standards and medication management oversight
  • Participated in statewide leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide psychiatric leadership and clinical oversight for behavioral health services across multiple correctional facilities throughout Kansas
  • Develop, implement, and monitor psychiatric policies, procedures, and clinical best practices
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state, federal, accreditation, and contractual standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary leadership teams to improve patient outcomes and continuity of care
  • Supervise, mentor, and support psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and behavioral health staff
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review activities, and utilization management processes
  • Aid with provider recruitment, onboarding, retention, and performance management
