About Richmond State Hospital

Richmond State Hospital is about the people we serve and the community relationships we have developed, dating back to 1890. Richmond State Hospital is a public behavioral health facility operated by the state of Indiana and one of six state psychiatric hospitals within the Family and Social Services Administration Division of Mental Health and Addiction. As part of a newly integrated system of state psychiatric hospitals, we serve consumers across the state as the Eastern Center of Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Services. Nestled in northwestern Richmond, our beautiful campus provides a quiet and peaceful environment. We provide psychiatric and co-occurring treatment to all adults regardless of race, religion, sex, gender identification, age, handicap, national origin, and ability to pay for services. Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day In The Life

  • Provide Clinical and Therapeutic Services
  • Participate in individual and or group treatment or psychotherapeutic programs for inpatients and families.
  • Participate in hospital-wide committees, integrated assessments, patient care monitors, and case conferences.
  • Familiarize family and patients with hospitalization and social service programs.
  • May register families for insurance and other related treatment and hospitalization requirements.
  • Lead and Oversee Social Services Operations
  • Assume responsibility over the social services discipline for all units.
  • Prepare and supervise subordinates and students’ preparation of social histories, individual treatment planning conferences, discharge records, and other materials related to treatment and transition.

Talent Development & Performance Management

  • Meet with subordinates to discuss and improve treatment problems associated with individual cases.
  • Review work of subordinates and students to ensure quality and accomplishment of goals.
  • Conduct professional development activities for staff and students.
  • Cookordinate and provide clinical training programs for students enrolled in field experiences.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.
  • Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need For Success

  • Ability to analyze program needs and effectiveness and to formulate plans for change to more adequately carry out the mission of the hospital.
  • Ability to assess patients’ needs, assess and document their progress, and change or amend treatment plans to effectively meet patients’ needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to formulate and implement individual treatment plans and to ensure the effective execution of such by treatment staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of community social service agencies and the ability to supervise and plan the coordination of social service programs with other related agencies.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of principles and practices of psychiatric social work, including social adjustment and rehabilitation, mental illness, personality development, casework, group treatment work, and community placement.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively coordinate an interdisciplinary approach to treatment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, their families, other treatment staff, and representatives from the community.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to train, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  • Demonstrate the ability to train professional and paraprofessional staff regarding effective social work methods and standards.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
  • Maintain certification as established by the professional practice board.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
