Statewide Accounting Director - Finance Services Director

About the role

This position is limited to regular employees of the Fire Department. We are accepting applications to fill a current and future vacancies in All Locations.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire and other emergency incidents by driving fire apparatus of any type or size to required locations
• Operates, services, and maintains pumping apparatus and other firefighting equipment and auxiliary apparatus
• Administers first aid
• Assists in the maintenance of the fire station and surrounding grounds
• Inspects commercial, industrial, school, hospital, and residential structures to detect and correct fire hazards and determine compliance with fire safety laws and ordinances
• Investigates fires to determine cause and origin
• Educates the public in the importance and methods of fire prevention by making presentations and showing films to groups and discussing fire prevention to individuals and groups
• Investigates complaints and answers questions regarding fire hazards and the violation of fire safety regulations
• Surveys fire protection facilities, such as the location of fire extinguishers, and maintains records of them
• Prepares reports of investigations and activities
• Instructs fire personnel in fire prevention techniques
• Participates in fire drills and classes
• Assists in maintaining the company journal and preparing required reports
• Assumes command of the fire company in the absence of the Fire Captain
• May instruct other fire personnel and volunteer firefighters in the operation and care of fire equipment

Requirements

• Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent, and two years of full time experience as a firefighter
• Or, a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities
• Possession and maintenance of a valid California Class B-Restricted Firefighter Driver’s License
• Possession of a valid California EMT-1 certificate or a valid California EMT-P license

Qualifications

• Knowledge of: fire prevention and fire suppression methods; county and state laws and regulations; safety principles pertaining to fire protection; fire hazards common to commercial, industrial and residential structures; operation and maintenance of pumping and all other types of firefighting and rescue equipment; local geography, roads and water supply systems; Fire Department Policies and Procedures Manual; incident command system; California Vehicle Code; Santa Barbara County Code; principles of affirmative action and equal employment opportunity
• Ability to: drive heavy fire apparatus in responding to emergency incidents; operate and maintain pumping apparatus; supervise and train subordinates when required; live and work amicably in close and continued contact with others; make investigations, analyze findings, and prepare reports and recommendations; speak effectively in public settings; establish and maintain effective working relations with others
