Start Up/Commissioning Refrigeration Technician

Responsibilities

  • Commission and startup commercial market refrigeration systems, including:
    • Fridge racks
    • Supermarket display cases
    • Walk-in coolers and freezers
    • Associated refrigeration controls and valves
  • Perform full site refrigeration checkout procedures prior to turnover
  • Execute refrigerant recovery, system pump-downs, evacuations, and charging
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration systems including:
    • Rack compressors
    • Refrigeration valves
    • EPR valves
    • EEVs
    • Suction, liquid, and discharge circuits
  • Configure, set up, and verify proper operation of:
    • EPR valves
    • Electronic expansion valves (EEVs)
    • Refrigeration control strategies
  • Troubleshoot and verify refrigeration control systems, including:
    • Copeland
    • Danfoss
    • NOVAR
    • Honeywell
    • Other market control platforms
  • Interpret and work from:
    • Construction drawings
    • Refrigeration plans
    • Electrical one-line diagrams
    • Equipment wiring schematics
  • Perform refrigerant leak detection and repair
  • Braze refrigeration piping in accordance with industry standards
  • Cook with manufacturers and technical support teams as needed
  • Lead and support refrigeration teams during commissioning activities
  • Document commissioning results, deficiencies, and corrective actions
  • Support training and mentorship of current refrigeration team members

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial market refrigeration service experience
  • Minimum 2 years of market refrigeration construction experience
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification
  • Preferred / Additional Certifications (Not Required): Refrigeration or HVAC Journeyman License, Controls certifications (Copeland, Danfoss, Honeywell, etc.), CO₂ refrigeration training, Manufacturer-specific or specialized refrigeration training, Strong understanding of how supermarket refrigeration systems operate as an integrated system, Proven troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines, Ability to work independently and lead commissioning efforts in the field, Willingness to travel outside place of residence, Willingness to work nights as required for commissioning activities, Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members, vendors, and management, Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations, Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, Effective and professional communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, clients, and others, whether individually or in a team environment, Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment guidelines, and company policies, are vital to performing work safely and effectively

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced working environment
  • Working environment may be busy and noisy
  • This position requires outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions
  • The role will frequently require working at heights, as well as in precarious places
  • This role will require working near fumes and airborne particles, as well as handling toxic and or caustic chemicals
  • Work environments will create excessive noise levels and require Technician’s to work in close proximity to live electrical circuits

Physical Demands

  • This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle
  • The role may involve extended work hours on construction sites, necessitating physical stamina to safely navigate the premises
  • The ability to lift and/or move materials and tools is essential, with a maximum weight limit of 50lbs. These tasks may vary and are not required to be performed daily

Travel Requirements

  • Will be required to work on project sites both within and outside of the Boise metropolitan area, and or in other states
  • This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle or airplane
  • This position requires the employee to reliably travel utilizing their personal vehicle
