Job Summary
The Perception team at Waymo is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the multi-task fine-tuning of multi-billion parameter models and their release to production. This role will also involve managing releases of multi-billion parameter models, contributing to technical roadmaps, and driving project staffing and technical decisions.
About the Role
As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of machine learning methods for distilling multiple expert models into one multi-task model. You will build resilient and high-performing teams through people development and hiring, and contribute to the development of technical roadmaps.
Responsibilities
- Lead the multi-task fine-tuning of multi-billion parameter models, and its release to production
- Lead the design and implementation of ML methods for distilling multiple expert models into one multi-task model
- Manage releases of multi-billion parameter models replacing a deployed model used by thousands or millions of customers
- Build resilient and high performing teams through people development and hiring
- Contribute to the development of technical roadmaps, (defining team OKRs, developing believable plans to achieve the OKRs), and drive the roadmap execution
- Drive project staffing decisions, technical decisions, and escalate issues as necessary; ultimately accountable for delivering projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent deep learning experience
- 5+ years of experience in Machine Learning and/or Computer Vision
- 2+ years of experience in managing ML engineering or research teams
- Experience with Python
- Experience with ML frameworks like PyTorch or JAX
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD degree in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science or a related field
- Publications at top-tier conferences like CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, ICML, ICRA, RSS, NeurIPS, AAAI, IJCV, PAMI
- Experience with C++
- Experience with real-time system design
