Motional is making autonomous vehicles a safe, reliable, and accessible reality. We’re developing driverless technology that will transform transportation, creating safer roadways, more equitable options, and better communities.

About the role

We are seeking a high-impact Staff-level Autonomy Technical Program Manager (TPM) to drive complex, cross-functional initiatives on the path to a driverless robotaxi. This role requires strong leadership to own and execute key programs, particularly in machine learning and behavioral capabilities, while partnering with the Behaviors, Prediction, and ML Planning teams. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, possesses deep technical expertise in robotics or autonomous systems, and has a proven background in driving safety-critical ML software and model releases in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Strategic Initiatives: Own and execute large-scale, complex technical programs critical to Motional’s roadmap, focusing on model development and release cycles while ensuring alignment between senior engineering leaders, product managers, and executive stakeholders.
  • Lead Cross-Stack Integration: Serve as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for high-level behavioral capabilities, managing dependencies and driving integration efforts across Prediction and ML Planning teams to successfully launch large models.
  • Dive Deep Technically: Go beyond surface-level program tracking by diving deep into ML and behavioral issues to facilitate trade-off discussions and drive teams toward robust solutions.
  • Identify and Resolve Blockers: Proactively identify, quantify, and communicate technical risks and dependencies, developing and executing mitigation strategies for high-priority issues that could impact driverless milestones.
  • Influence Roadmaps: Partner deeply with engineering and product leadership to ensure the ML and behaviors roadmap is well-defined, integrated, and aligned with top-level company goals.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in technical program management or a similar role, leading complex, safety-critical AI software, robotics, or systems programs.
  • Experience managing large model releases and model development lifecycles is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proven track record of taking large, complex programs from initial concept and ambiguity to successful launch.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as the primary point of contact for complex programs, with a track record of communicating progress, risks, and strategic recommendations to leadership.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401k with a company match.
  • Health savings accounts.
  • Life insurance.
  • Pet insurance.
  • Additional benefits may apply.
