Responsibilities
- Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in the design and production of drawings for projects with transportation related structures.
- Apply strong knowledge of commonly used civil and structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the transportation industry.
- Perform design/review of structural calculations from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
- Attend project meetings.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
- Or Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering a plus.
- Minimum 3 years structural engineering experience in the design of highway structures for IDOT, Illinois Tollway preferred.
- Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) design experience a plus.
- Illinois Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering License (SE) preferred or ability to obtain.
- Good understanding of structural design principles, or an aptitude to develop.
- Good oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present information.
- Good attention to detail, organization, and critical thinking skills.
- Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software including MicroStation and Open Bridge Modeler.
- Experience with design software including MDX, LEAP Bridge, AASHTOWare, Midas Civil, or other comparable technical design and modeling software.
- Proficient in the use of basic computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Limited Travel to Support KC and other Regional Offices 10%.
