Structural Engineer - Transportation

About the role

The Structural Engineer will evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for projects including bridges and other transportation structures. They will work on plans and designs for bridges, highway interchanges, roadway reconstruction, railroad infrastructure, and public spaces. The role involves providing resources and schedules, preparing proposals and cost estimates, and evaluating project progress.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects
• Reviews and seals own projects or the work of others
• Manages the design and construction of projects, providing structural engineering input
• Leads and manages other team members while working on projects
• Conducts quality assurance and quality control on structural design elements and projects
• Prepares construction contract documents, project proposals, change orders, plans, and reports
• Performs calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software
• Attends client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to understand client goals
• Recognizes and initiates corrective actions for technical problems
• Monitors budgets and schedules for own work and the project team
• Trains less experienced team members in technical design, processing, and company procedures
• Utilizes relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and complex working drawings
• Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned

Requirements

• Thorough understanding of all phases of project document production
• Thorough understanding of codes, legal, and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions
• Proficient in MicroStation and other relevant design software
• Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of finite-element analysis (FEA) and its application to complex structural engineering problems
• Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
• Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies
• Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
• Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
• Ability to collaborate in a project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and communicate ideas, design issues, and solutions effectively
• Ability to create and interpret sketches, drawings, and various structures

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
• Licensed Professional Engineer and Licensed Structural Engineer in Minnesota preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of experience required

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.

Pay

Locations in MN, OH, VT, and various CA, ME, NY, VA areas: $90,900.00 - $131,800.00 annually.
