About the role

Aerostar, a business unit of TCOM, seeks a Staff Software Engineer to develop technical solutions for customer missions and translate them into business cases. This role requires interfacing with customers and internal management, driving program capture activities, and contributing to complex technical projects.

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer missions and requirements
  • Translate into technical concepts and business cases
  • Interface with Business Development team
  • Integrate and align technical solutions with business cases, contractual language, and bids
  • Drive program capture activities for Stratospheric Balloon and Radar products and related engineering and flight/field services
  • Work independently while applying sound judgment and adhering to policies
  • Engage in projects with clear objectives requiring careful planning and consideration
  • Handle various tasks, evaluating multiple factors and data points
  • Utilize extensive knowledge in specialization while maintaining a working understanding of related fields
  • Contribute to complex technical projects demanding cutting-edge industry knowledge
  • Generate creative ideas for new products and solutions
  • Gradually enhance contributions and influence on team projects
  • Assume critical roles in technical leadership, overseeing work assignments for junior engineers and technicians
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • Own major architectural decisions and contribute to the long-term technical vision
  • Develop and maintain Yocto builds by writing and managing recipes, layers, and configuration files
  • Use Linux shell scripting and command-line tools for automation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
  • Engage in Linux-based application development, deployment, and maintenance
  • Manage software projects in line with internal ISO standards
  • Contribute to strategic business decisions by combining technical and business acumen

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related field is required
  • 8+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 6+ years with a master’s degree
  • Advanced knowledge in relevant software engineering disciplines recognized by leadership
  • Proficient in C, C++, and Linux kernel development
  • Strong skills in Linux shell scripting and command-line tools for automation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
  • Extensive experience in Linux-based application development in production environments
  • Ability to apply software design theories to create scalable and maintainable systems
  • Proven aptitude for leading technical problem analysis and using advanced problem-solving techniques
  • Exceptional customer service skills, translating business needs into effective technical solutions
  • Preferred knowledge of manufacturing techniques and integrating software solutions into production settings
  • Proficient in productivity tools like Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, analysis, and reporting
  • Self-motivated team player who thrives with minimal supervision and fosters collaboration across teams

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach
  • Working Conditions: Primarily in a standard office environment, with occasional exposure to production areas, including noise, fumes, moving machinery, and varying temperatures
