Staff Software Engineer

Role Overview

The Ads data platform team is a key team in the Ads foundation organization. We provide the foundational platform that manages and serves all data used in our ads-serving pipeline. We build the big data platform that processes all the Coupang Ads data, involving enrichment, aggregation, attribution, settlement, measurement, and more. We are looking for passionate backend software experts to build large-scale data processing systems that power our Ads business. Our mission is to design and build a scalable, extensible, and resilient data processing infrastructure that powers our Ads business with big data and build scalable real-time services to serve the data.

What You Will Do

• Architect and scale high-throughput data processing pipelines and serving infrastructure critical to real-time ad delivery.
• Engineer our next-generation data platform, focusing on self-service capabilities that empower cross-functional teams to deploy data into production with minimal friction.
• Bridge the gap between business strategy and technical execution, translating complex ads logic into highly distributed, efficient, and resilient system architectures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or a closely related field
• 6 years of experience in backend software development
• Experience working in cloud environments, particularly AWS
• Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining highly available, distributed systems
• Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results
• Experience building ads serving systems
• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization
• Experience working in multi-cultural, cross-functional team
• Experience building highly scalable and low latency systems in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Experience leading a project of building large-scale data serving platform
• Proficiency in Java and the Spring Frameworks

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability and desire to drive solid design work on multi-threaded/multi-process, distributed system
• A passion to explore, improve, automate, and optimize distributed systems and tools
• Proven ability to lead and collaborate in cross-functional, fast-paced environments
• To think outside-the-box and challenge conventional wisdoms
• Experience with advertising systems/Search advertising/Advertising Marketplace/Display advertising/Ad Server
• Experience working with AWS (Amazon web services)
• Familiarity with Agile development practices, including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience managing mission-critical services with high throughput and low latency
• Experience working in fast-paced environment
• Experience with Spark/Hive/Redis/Kafka
• Strong communication skills for interfacing with technical teams, business stakeholders, and end users
