Staff Scientist - Systems Analyst
Job Description
The Homeland Protection Systems Group is seeking highly motivated candidates who have a passion for solving challenging problems. As a Staff Scientist in our Group, your responsibilities will include implementing models based on first principles, developing an understanding of complex systems, and making recommendations to inform government leadership on the most challenging problems related to Homeland Protection. You will have the opportunity to work with an experienced, multi-disciplinary team of researchers and engineers to inform the technology designs for complex systems.
We research a wide variety of problem domains within our mission area, and are therefore looking for staff with an innate curiosity to solve diverse problems. We encourage engagement with the academic and government community at-large through publications and conference attendance. We collaborate with Groups across MIT Lincoln Laboratory to provide our team members with access to unique datasets, state-of-the-art resources, deep subject matter expertise, and challenging technical problems that will give you the opportunity to use your skills to make a real-world impact.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or related discipline.
- In lieu of a PhD, a Master’s degree and 5 years’ relevant experience will be considered.
Requirements
- Ability to quickly learn new technical areas and apply that knowledge effectively to solve challenging mission problems
- Ability to clearly present complex technical concepts to a wide spectrum of audiences
- Proficient at software languages for physics based modeling (e.g., MATLAB or Python)
- Desire to lead exploration into new technical areas in support of the Group’s mission focus areas
- Ability to develop, implement, test and evaluate novel algorithms and concepts
- Intellectual curiosity and a passion for solving challenging problems
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary technical teams to successful project execution
Desired Skills
- Interest in National Security
- Knowledge of sensors and sensing modalities, physics of sensor operation
- Expertise in processing large datasets and data exploitation techniques
- The ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects at once

Pay
Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $145,200 - $170,000
Experienced Hiring Range: $145,200 - $220,000
