About the Role

This position is located at the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) in Soledad, CA, Monterey County. Under the general direction of the Senior Psychiatrist (Sup), the Staff Psychiatrist in Mental Health Services is a member of an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team providing general population outpatient services to inmates.

The team includes other psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric social workers assigned to a Service Area. The staff psychiatrist performs psychiatric evaluations, participates in treatment planning and case reviews, prescribes medications, and provides crisis intervention and psychotherapy. Additionally, the role involves providing consultations and training in treatment approaches to both clinical and custody staff.

Pay

This classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales. The authorized HAM rates are: P $30,259, Q $31,136 per month.

Effective July 1, 2023, employees in this class who are physically located at and assigned to direct in-person patient care on grounds or at a facility shall receive a pay differential equivalent to 15% of their monthly base pay. Eligibility requires providing direct patient care more than 50% of the pay period.

Recruitment and retention incentives may include:

• A $10,000 one-time stipend after six months of employment with CCHCS.
• A monthly recruitment and retention differential during the first year (totaling $5,000).
• A $5,000 referral bonus for CDCR/CCHCS employees if the referred candidate is hired and remains employed for 90 days.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) reduces the base salary of full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 16 by 4.62% and provides 8 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to these conditions on a prorated basis.

Responsibilities

• Perform psychiatric evaluations of inmates.
• Participate in treatment planning and case reviews.
• Prescribe medications and provide crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
• Provide consultations and training in treatment approaches to clinical and custody staff.
• Work as part of an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team to deliver outpatient mental health services.
