Staff Project Engineer

As a Staff Project Engineer at Valero, you will provide technical expertise and manage capital projects from design, development, and execution in a safe and efficient manner. You will help advance the future of energy through innovation, ingenuity, and unmatched execution.

Responsibilities

• Develop, design, perform cost estimation, and prepare/submit Authorization for Expenditures (AFE) and Decision Review Board (DRB) documents for capital and expense projects.
• Understand and implement the budget, appropriations, and project control processes for capital workload.
• Perform the final review and approval of designs, budgets, project plans, schedules, resources, QA/QC procedures, and project reports.
• Recruit and oversee contract project managers.
• Track cost and schedule performance of projects relative to the capital budget.
• Manage the capital project program spend while ensuring project schedule and performance are not compromised.
• Prepare specifications and procure materials and equipment for timely and efficient project execution.
• Provide technical support to all refinery departments to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective installations.
• Oversee and coordinate contract personnel for engineering, design, and installation of capital, expense, and maintenance projects.
• Perform cost tracking and status reporting for assigned projects.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously within a managed budget and execution schedule.
• Provide support to the refinery during planned and unplanned outages, including availability to respond to critical business needs during off-hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Follow all safety rules and guidelines as established by the refinery.

Requirements

• Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Ardmore Refinery.
• Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering preferred).
• 8 years of experience in engineering and project management, with at least 3 years of exposure in a refinery or petrochemical-operating environment.
