Staff Project Engineer
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads exploration and development of new manufacturing processes and equipment opportunities in support of global strategic Operations’ objectives.
- Leads the rapid modeling and prototyping of new manufacturing technology as assigned from idea definition to concept handoff or implementation.
- Applies Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and statistical analysis to identify and manage projects from inception through implementation delivering improved margins, shorter lead times and reduced inventory.
- Enables seamless transition of new products into Operations by application of Product Design, streamlined manufacturing principles, selection of best manufacturing supply chains, machine tool design & selection.
- Responsible for capital project budget control, management communication and adherence to project timelines.
- Provides technical leadership in the resolution of the equipment problems, elimination of waste, and equipment downtime with the objective of minimizing unit cost.
- Produces and is accountable for proper and accurate engineering work and record keeping including the work of technicians and/or other engineers.
Job Specifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
- A minimum of ten years of related project engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- A minimum of five years of project management experience.
- Green Belt Six Sigma certification is required, Black Belt preferred.
- Ability to develop and optimize product designs for ease of manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of computer aided design software.
- Outstanding communication, interaction and problem-solving skills.
- Broad based knowledge in areas of Lean and continuous improvement, automation, product and package development in a global manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lead and influence key leaders and others.
- Capable of independent and self-directed work to support strategic long term Operations’ vision.
- Maintains state of the art awareness of new technologies for manufacturing through vendor contacts, trade shows, professional journals, etc.
- Communicates effectively between Marketing, Operations Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and R&D departments, as well as outside vendors to assure proper specifications and timeliness of projects.
