Staff Product Manager - Billing
About the role
Lambda runs a usage-based GPU cloud at significant and fast-growing scale. The Billing platform is the system of record for all of it. Metering a large GPU fleet accurately is a hard distributed-systems problem wrapped in a hard product problem, and it has to be right every time, because customers choose Lambda in part because they can trust the bill.
Responsibilities
Own the Metering Pipeline: Define product requirements for per-minute usage metering across Lambda's on-demand GPU fleet, including accuracy standards, reconciliation, and how the system behaves during instance lifecycle edge cases.
Build Billing for Both Motions: Ship billing that works for self-serve, per-minute on-demand customers and for sales-led committed contracts on 1-Click Clusters running 64 to 1,024+ GPUs, on one coherent platform.
Protect Billing Accuracy: Define correctness as a product requirement, drive reconciliation and audit mechanisms with finance and platform engineering, and treat a wrong invoice as a launch-blocking defect.
Drive the Credits and Invoicing Lifecycle: Own how credits are granted, consumed, and expire, and how invoices are generated, delivered, and disputed, end to end.
Make Pricing Changes Shippable: Partner with finance and go-to-market so that new instance types, contract structures, and pricing updates can launch quickly without compromising revenue integrity.
Extend Billing Through the Lambda Cloud API: Define usage and billing surfaces in Lambda's public API so customers can pull spend data into their own tooling programmatically.
Extend into Commerce as a Platform: Billing doesn’t stop when you rate a metering dimension, it extends into areas like Fraud detection and prevention, managing bad debt, and other financial tradeoffs.
In this role, you will work to productize these types of dimensions too and work with other PMs and engineering leaders in the places that overlap like alarming when a bill reaches particular thresholds.
Measure and Iterate: Instrument the billing experience, watch where customers get confused or surprised, and ship improvements on a tight loop.
Requirements
We hire product managers who learn new domains fast and reason rigorously from evidence. Deep billing domain experience is a plus.
Qualifications

Turn usage patterns, revenue reports, and support tickets into a clear decision about what to build next, and why now
Win engineers, designers, finance partners, executives, and customers over to your ideas by making the case, not by outranking them
Have taken products from ambiguous problem statement through launch, measurement, and iteration, repeatedly
Be comfortable reasoning about distributed systems concepts that billing correctness depends on, such as event pipelines, idempotency, and reconciliation
Be fluent in SQL (Structured Query Language) or similar tools for independent data analysis
Able to define iterative plans that move an organization from the current state towards the desired outcome
Skills
Billing, metering, or monetization platforms, especially for usage-based pricing
Background in fintech or payments where correctness carried financial and regulatory consequences
