The Pharmacy Manager Emerging Leader (PMEL) plays a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in their pharmacy by acting as a role model for all, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team, while developing their own leadership skills in preparation for increasing responsibility. As a PMEL, you will build upon your skills and responsibilities as a Staff or District Support Pharmacist and build additional competencies to become ready for a Pharmacy Manager (PM) role. You will complete a self-paced, collaborative training roadmap with both virtual and hands-on learning experiences to prepare you to lead a pharmacy independently. Program length depends on prior leadership experience but is typically completed within 3-6 months for most Pharmacy Manager candidates.
Responsibilities
- Deliver our purpose, model our values, and demonstrate genuine, authentic care for patients while acting as a role model, mentor, and guide for the pharmacy team.
- Support the home store Pharmacy Manager by exhibiting best practices when working the bench, including quarterbacking the team, providing meaningful patient counseling, and complying with all legal and regulatory guidelines.
- Manage and improve patient health through safe dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Oversee the pharmacy as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts, including coaching team members and providing performance feedback.
- Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the primary pharmacist-on-duty.
- Ensure safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and utilizing safety guardrails.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, collaborating with healthcare teams, and resolving insurance or medication issues.
- Proactively offer and deliver immunizations, and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
- Manage pharmacy inventory by following best practices, with a focus on protecting cold chain products.
- Ensure full compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and escalate issues as needed.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including writing the pharmacy schedule if directed.
- Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, including completing required trainings and continuing education.
- Support access to care and improve patient outcomes through clinical services such as testing and prescribing (e.g., COVID/Flu, Hormonal Contraception).
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, and CVS Health policies.
Requirements
- 6+ months of experience as a Staff or District Support Pharmacist.
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions

- Communication Skills: Use verbal and written communication effectively, practice active listening, and provide clear direction to team members.
- Mathematical Reasoning: Solve problems involving prescription calculations (e.g., total tablets, day’s supply).
- Issue Resolution: Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
Physical Demands
- Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods.
- Lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead or stretch to grasp items.
- Move fingers repetitively for tasks like typing or picking.
- Extend hands and arms in multiple directions to place or lift items.
- Stoop or bend to move items between low and high positions.
- Close visual acuity for tasks like transcribing, reading, or inspecting small parts.
- Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. and frequently lift up to 10 lbs.
- Exchange ideas through spoken communication accurately.
- Receive detailed information through oral communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work in other locations across the market as business needs require.
Pay
The typical pay range for this role is $60.00 - $76.00 per hour. This range represents the base hourly rate for all positions in the job grade. The actual base salary offer will depend on factors including experience, education, geography, and other relevant considerations. This position is also eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission, or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range.
