Part-time position, 24 hours per week (0.6 FTE), day shift.
About the role
The Staff Nurse provides nursing care requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. This role focuses on family-centered care for pediatric patients in the Peri Anesthesia OSC unit.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and directs nursing care for individuals or groups of patients within the assigned scope of practice.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients regardless of age and developmental status.
- Performs leadership and professional duties, including precepting new employees and mentoring clinical staff.
- Performs patient-centered care, quality improvement, and safety duties.
- Participates in the development and education of staff members on clinically related issues.
- Performs evidence-based practice duties and supports provider staff to promote collaboration for efficient operation and quality care.
- Performs systems-based practice, informatics, and technology duties.
- May be temporarily assigned to other areas within Akron Children’s Hospital based on patient needs requiring similar knowledge and skill.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required or must be obtained within 5 years from date of hire.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support training from the American Heart Association is required.
- Additional certifications may be required based on the assigned department or unit.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio is required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to other staff members with an emphasis on collaboration.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure to prioritize tasks.
- Experience working with various levels within an organization is required; healthcare experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
- Experience with an electronic medical record system (e.g., EPIC) or similar software is preferred.
