Staff Nurse, Medical ICU - Full-Time, Days
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse (RN) in the 9N&S MICU department at our Hyde Park campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity requiring you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world’s most innovative approaches to patients with all conditions, from common to complex. The MICU is a 24-bed unit split into two sides (north and south) with 12 beds each. It is the second largest unit and features a free-floating charge nurse. The MICU holds a tier 1 score for employee engagement for three consecutive years. You will collaborate with physicians who push the boundaries of medical research and provide lifesaving, personalized patient care.
About the Role
A Staff Nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient-centered care that is outcome-directed. Patient-centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. The Staff Nurse assumes primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care they personally provide and that provided by those under their supervision.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs.
- Develops a plan of care for patients whose needs do not require Case Manager expertise or collaborates with the Case Manager for specified patients.
- Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by the Care Center Director or Patient Care Manager.
- Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, serving as a resource, and working as a team member.
- Assists the Care Center in developing and attaining goals and objectives.
- Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice.
- Assesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources.
- Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation.
Requirements
- Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). ADN nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six to nine months of hire and complete the degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement toward a BSN from an accredited program.
- Current Illinois RN license.
- Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN degree or higher.
- 2+ years of ICU experience.
Pay
The pay range reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected for this position, based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and current market data. Compensation at hire will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
Schedule
- Full-Time (0.9 FTE).
- Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM.
- Work Location: Onsite – Hyde Park campus.
