About the Role

Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic plan of care for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/support person to address all identified needs.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement the medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient's responses to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure and pursues professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and describes responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the units as defined in the scope of service, including age-specific care.
  • Follows hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Works effectively as part of a team to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Functions as a role model and provides support and development for current and new staff.
  • Directs other licensed and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care to patients as assigned.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current license in the state of Ohio
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • TCAR preferred

Working Conditions

  • Stand/Walk: 6-8 hours
  • Sit: 1-2 hours
  • Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach: 1/3 or more of the time
  • Lift, Carry, Push, Pull: 1/3 or more of the time (up to 25 pounds)
  • Right/Left Hand: Precise motor function (fine manipulation)
  • Right/Left Foot: Gross motor function
  • Body Fluid Exposure: Yes

Standards of Employment

  • Attends all mandatory education programs and describes responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment.
  • Wears proper photo identification badge while on duty.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding with the manager.
  • Completes required department-specific education and training programs.
  • Follows safety and security policies, including exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
