About the role

The Montefiore RN maintains standards of the practice for nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and Nursing's Social Policy Statement. The Registered Nurse actualizes the vision, mission, values, and balanced scorecard performance measures for Montefiore Medical Center. The RN participates in performance improvement/research activities; maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise; and demonstrates leadership skills. The RN demonstrates core and unit-specific competencies based on the patient population served.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership skills in the coordination and delivery of patient care.
  • Coordinates an interdisciplinary plan of care and ensures 100% of assigned patients have a documented plan of care.
  • Ensures completion of patient care assignment 100% of the time; interdisciplinary plan of care aligns with accepted LOS parameters.
  • Delegates aspects of patient care to team members consistent with their capabilities and responsibilities; ensures delegated tasks are completed according to established standards.
  • Establishes a therapeutic relationship with patient/family and assumes charge nurse responsibilities.
  • Participates in orienting and developing associates through mentorship and preceptorship.
  • Systematically assesses the healthcare needs of patients/families and their responses to care rendered.
  • Completes 100% of admission assessments within 8 hours and documents teaching/learning needs prior to discharge.
  • Assesses, evaluates, and documents patient responses to nursing and interdisciplinary interventions, including patient/family teaching.
  • Initiates a teaching and discharge plan for 100% of assigned patients within 24 hours of admission.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills to problem-solve and initiate clinical decision-making; optimizes patient outcomes.
  • Participates in identifying, investigating, and resolving risk management, quality care, and ethical issues.
  • Evaluates patient progress toward health goals and modifies the plan of care accordingly; identifies variances and initiates appropriate interventions.
  • Develops, coordinates, and provides direct care for specific patient assignments using patient-focused care and age-specific guidelines.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients/families, including administering medication, responding to emergencies, and using equipment according to policies.
  • Provides comprehensive direct patient care utilizing nursing knowledge, research, and evidence-based practice.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members; defends and preserves patient rights.
  • Assesses and documents patient advanced care directives for 100% of assigned patients.
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with healthcare team members and documents legibly.
  • Maintains competencies and participates in professional development activities; contributes to the growth of colleagues and the nursing profession.
  • Attends at least one hospital committee meeting or in-service annually and shares information with coworkers.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own practice, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Integrates standards of excellence into daily clinical practice, including respect, effective communication, sensitivity, professionalism, and courtesy.

Requirements

  • New York State License for Registered Professional Nurse and current registration or valid permit to practice in New York State as an R.N.
  • Associate’s degree required; BSN Degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years ICU experience required.
  • Basic Life Support Training.
  • Infection Control Training.
  • Certification in specialty preferred.
  • Effective English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval systems.

Schedule

Night shift • Alternate work schedule • 7 PM–7:30 AM • 11.5 hours daily

Pay

$62.63/hour. For positions that have only a rate listed, the displayed rate is the hiring rate but could be subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education, or other relevant factors.
