*STAFF NURSE II
Job Summary
The Staff Nurse is a professional caregiver responsible for assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients in compliance with Seton Medical Center's standards and the Nurse Practice Act.
Requirements
Assesses, collects, and documents health assessment data focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, psychosocial, and educational needs of the patient.
Interviews the patient/family/significant other to complete Triage information, identifies actual and potential needs, and determines priority.
Develops realistic short-term goals for each problem, involving the patient, family or significant others, and negotiates with health care team members in planning for education and discharge needs.
Plans and implements the plan of care including prescribed procedures and treatments, organizes and prioritizes care based on individual needs and unit activity, and initiates interventions using appropriate clinical expertise and knowledge.
Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care delivered to reach the expected outcome, evaluates the plan of care according to the current condition and changing needs of the patient, and accurately and concisely documents the patient’s status and response to the care delivered.
Emergency Nursing
Utilizes professional nursing knowledge and skills to assess for physical and psychosocial-emotional needs, barriers to learning, educational/learning needs, discharge needs, and age-related needs.
Analyzes patient related data to determine appropriate care.
Prioritizes needs and uses a patient-centered approach to implement interventions for all Emergency Services patients.
Provides health education and teaching to patients, family members, and/or significant others, that is age-specific, and ensures the patient, family member or significant other understands all discharge and follow-up instructions.
Performs procedures such as initiation of IV catheters and fluids, medication administration, dressings, patient teaching, etc., within their scope of practice, and unit, department, and Medical Center policies and procedures.
Performs other nursing procedures/skills, such as cardiac monitoring, rhythm interpretation, defibrillation, monitoring of conscious sedation, ABGs, etc., based on completed specialty training and their scope of practice, and unit, department, and Medical Center policies and procedures.
Maintains all required credentials and training (CA RN license, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, AB508).
Remains current on emergency treatments/practices/procedures through attendance at staff meetings, continuing education events, in-services, and the review of professional literature.
Demonstrates knowledge of and competence in age-related patient care.
Consistently demonstrates knowledge of state and federal regulations, such as Title XXII and COBRA/EMTALA. Follow all TJC, CDPH, CMS guidelines.
Advocates for public health and safety through patient and family education.
Completes required documentation of the Emergency Services visit.
Demonstrates caring and compassion through behaviors and interactions in performance of all duties, recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of patients, families, other staff, and physicians.
Will perform duties of Relief Charge RN if called upon to do so.
Adheres to departmental and medical center policies on scheduling, overtime, sick time, and time off.
Arrives punctually, takes appropriate time for breaks, and uses sick time appropriately.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.
Staff Nurse II - Minimum of six months Registered Nurse experience. Six months current ER & triage experience or completion of Seton ER Nurse Training Program.
Active California Registered Nurse licensure, Basic Life Support certification (BLS), ACLS certification, PALS certification, NIHSS certification, Workforce Violence Prevention De-escalation 8-hr (AB508) certification or CPI certification, and NRP certification.
Diffusing Assaultive Behavior Training, Knowledgeable of the California Nursing Practice Act, able to understand and follow all policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, and regulations of Nursing Service, Seton Medical Center, Title XXII, excellent communication and customer service skills, proficient in Evident computerized documentation system preferred.
