About the Role

This senior-level professional position is responsible for attaining and managing the company's mineral and leasehold interests for an assigned geographical area to obtain the legal right to drill oil and gas wells on specific properties. Responsibilities

  • Verify ownership of properties where the company seeks to explore for oil and gas.
  • Acquire oil and gas leases by contacting mineral and leasehold owners to negotiate purchases or assignments, granting the company legal rights to explore and drill.
  • Assemble necessary government permits as required by law to execute oil and gas exploration plans.
  • Investigate and report the company’s ownership position, competitor activity, potential legal issues, or other relevant matters to top management for strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain outside operated wells where the company has an interest, including researching discrepancies and advising the team on new proposals from outside parties.
  • Compile and update land maps displaying pertinent land information for prospects within the assigned area to convey current land positions to management.
  • Manage and communicate with field lease brokers for the acquisition of oil and gas leases, lease title take-offs, and abstract work; may recommend broker employment.
  • Order, review, and cure title for wells to be drilled, including the formation of units (DPUs).
  • Strategize and collaborate with internal departments such as operations landmen, GIS, and Title Specialists to meet drilling goals and deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge and ability to apply land management principles, including negotiations, contracts, leasing, and multi-well drilling rig coordination with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced knowledge of oil, gas, and mineral laws in various states, including affiliated oil and gas leases, deeds, and title curative documents with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced relationship-building and negotiation skills to achieve desired results proactively.
  • Advanced knowledge of oil and gas vocabulary and ability to read and understand legal descriptions for tracts of land.
  • Ability to manage large amounts of information with accuracy and critical attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of acquisitions, divestiture principles, methodologies, and corporate strategy.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
    • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management or Juris Doctorate (JD) or Certified Professional Landman (CPL).
  • Experience: 5–8 years of related work experience.
