About the role
Qualcomm is developing an exciting new product line for machine learning inference acceleration in the cloud with industry-leading performance/watt. As part of this project, we are seeking an experienced power electronics engineer to cover all aspects of product development, including specifying board-level power design, power management products and voltage regulator selection, development, programming, debug, post-silicon board/SoC test validation, and power correlation to ensure system-level performance and power metrics are met.
Responsibilities
- Specify board-level power design, power management products, and voltage regulator selection
- Develop, program, and debug power solutions
- Perform post-silicon board/SoC test validation and power correlation
- Work with power, system, board architecture, and cross-organization colleagues to ensure the board meets power delivery requirements to the SoC
- Provide schematic/layout guidance to the CAD team and conduct design reviews following internal and industry-established guidelines
- Drive internal simulation teams to ensure board design meets signal and power integrity (SI/PI), including impedance analysis, IR drop analysis, and transient droop/overshoot for all rails
- Program Qualcomm PMICs to orchestrate system power-on and power-off sequences on development platforms
- Derive, document, and execute board validation test plans pre/post-silicon
- Bring up and test PCBs using typical test equipment (oscilloscopes, meters, electronic loads, passive/active/power probes, T32 debuggers, etc.)
- Triage system-level problems to determine root cause, analyze test results to ensure sufficient design margins, and provide feedback to implement changes as required
- Support SoC, software, and firmware teams during development
- Track industry technology trends and interact with other technology teams to provide technical expertise for next-generation initiatives
Requirements
- Expertise in one or more of the following: power electronics (switch mode and linear), power management, high-bandwidth/low-latency control interfaces, thermal analysis, power distribution networks, firmware coding, Python or similar scripting languages, PCB layout and construction, and industry-standard interfaces (e.g., DDR, PCIe, USB)
- Proficiency with design and simulation tools such as MATLAB, SIMPLIS, Excel, and Mentor Graphics
- Ability to work with a degree of abstraction and ambiguity
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 6+ years of relevant experience
- OR Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience
- OR Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience
- OR PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience
