Responsibilities

  • Define and capture hardware system features, functions, and interfaces, guiding products seamlessly through their developmental and certification processes
  • Lead and oversee the entire lifecycle of a hardware project, from conceptualization to production, ensuring all aspects align with project goals and specifications
  • Specify, construct, and present proof-of-concept hardware, demonstrating a deep understanding of its functionality and potential
  • Collaborate with both domestic and international suppliers, fostering effective communication and maintaining strong working relationships
  • Establish and uphold comprehensive company-wide hardware development processes, adhering to industry standards such as CMMI or equivalent methodologies
  • Identify, integrate, and troubleshoot issues in both mechanical and electrical hardware components, ensuring seamless system functionality
  • Create and maintain circuit schematics and PCB layouts using Altium or Cadence tools, demonstrating precision and attention to detail
  • Facilitate the successful initiation of new circuit boards containing ARM CPUs and MCUs, managing the entire process from conception to implementation
  • Develop and execute hardware verification test plans, ensuring the robustness and reliability of the hardware solutions
  • Contribute to the creation of board support packages for Linux OS, including the installation and modification of software drivers as needed
  • Innovate electrical architecture solutions to optimize designs for the unique requirements of each new project
  • Design, model, simulate, and verify both analog and digital circuits to meet project specifications and performance criteria
  • Layout and optimize routing on PCBs, with a focus on high-speed buses to enhance overall system performance
  • Provide essential support to software engineering in development and troubleshooting efforts, fostering a collaborative and cohesive work environment
  • Undertake travel as necessary to support critical hardware bring-up, manufacturing processes, and customer support initiatives
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the hardware development team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Over 7 years of hands-on experience with a strong emphasis on circuit board design
  • Knowledge in embedded system design, encompassing circuit design, testing, debugging, and firmware development
  • Strong skills in analog and mixed-signal circuit design and simulation
  • Experience in selecting, interfacing, and configuring camera sensors
  • Experience in designing and implementing digital interfaces, including MIPI (camera and display), USB, I2C/SPI, SDIO, UART as well as wireless protocols such as LTE, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth
  • Regulatory experience, particularly with FCC and PTCRB certifications and familiarity with electronics test instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, meters, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
  • Familiarization with video pipeline principals
  • Applied knowledge of modern printed circuit board schematic and layout design software (Altium or Cadence)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present a strong rationale for design decisions
  • Proficient soldering skills, including placing and replacing both Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and thru-hole components; IPC610 certification preferred
  • Familiarity with using and testing software in the Linux operating system
  • Understanding of verification and validation strategies/execution
