Staff Engineering Technician - Solar
About the role
System One is seeking a Staff Engineering Technician-Solar for a full-time position in Phoenix, AZ. This opportunity provides the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects in the solar and wind sectors, while contributing to the development of critical civil infrastructure that addresses both current and future challenges.
Responsibilities
- Support the planning, design, and implementation of civil infrastructure for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including grading, drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities.
- Perform technical civil engineering design tasks under general supervision, utilizing advanced industry-standard design tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D, PVcase, and PVFarm.
- Prepare and modify site plans, grading designs, and utility layouts to ensure project compliance and quality.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering professionals and technicians to maintain consistency across project deliverables.
- Review design inputs, calculations, and project requirements to ensure adherence to applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
- Absorb project documentation and support field activities as needed.
- Apply engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts and solutions.
- Cook up with design team members, review project information, and support project development efforts.
- Proactively seek opportunities to implement the latest technologies and processes to improve project outcomes.
Requirements
- Diploma or Certificate required. Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Experience with Civil 3D grading and Autodesk Civil 3D required.
- Solar energy experience and PVcase and PVFarm software experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to support pre-employment onboarding requirements such as background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle records search.
- Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
