About the role

The VDDS Staff Civil Engineering Technician plays a vital role in the delivery of high-quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects, working alongside a collaborative and experienced team of professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and modification of site plans, grading designs, and utility layouts
  • Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
  • Provides technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs
  • Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures
  • Reviews design inputs in order to ensure consistency
  • Assists to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project
  • Performs design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records
  • Supports field activities
  • Focuses on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external clients' main interests and drivers

Requirements

Diploma or Certificate required. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred. Minimum Qualifications typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.

Qualifications

  • Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • Knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures
  • Ability to apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation
  • Capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and can provide technical guidance to other professionals
  • May apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices
  • Uses advanced, industry-standard design tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D, PVcase and PVFarm
  • Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures
  • Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables

Pay

$74,360 - $124,190 annually

Schedule

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
