Staff Engineering Technician

This contingent assignment will be working with Black & Veatch, a global engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and consulting company specializing in telecommunications and power infrastructure. The role offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams on Grid projects, including Overhead Transmission Line design.

About the role

The Structural Staff Engineering Technician - Overhead Transmission role is an onsite position requiring candidates to be located within 50 miles of a regional Black & Veatch office in one of the following locations: Overland Park, KS; Ann Arbor, MI; Houston, TX; Orlando, FL; Raleigh, NC; Denver, CO; or Tualatin, OR. This position requires overhead transmission design experience and PLS-CADD experience.

Under general supervision, the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician supports the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects, focusing on transmission models, drawings, and details using tools like PLS-CADD. The role involves providing technical guidance to other engineering professionals and technicians.

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and Black & Veatch policies and procedures.
• Review project requirements and determine the correct format and contents of deliverables.
• Apply the BV Quality Program to deliverables, ensuring personal accuracy and supporting continuous improvement.
• Review design inputs for consistency and ensure deliverables comply with project-specific codes and standards.
• Develop moderately complex design concepts and deliverables using engineering principles and established design practices.
• Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and maintain records.
• Review deliverables of others and provide technical guidance to other professionals.
• Define work assignments, maintain schedules, and coordinate with other design group personnel.
• Support field activities and focus on the needs of internal clients while understanding external client interests.
• Proactively seek and share knowledge of the latest technologies and processes.
• Utilize digital tools and design software (e.g., BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation and project deliverables.
• May program control systems or participate in plant start-up activities within a specialized area of expertise.

Requirements

• Overhead transmission design experience.
• PLS-CADD experience.
• Diploma or Certificate required; Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.

Pay

$34.82/hour - $46.43/hour
