About the role
The Portfolio Engineer (Storefront) at Quince is responsible for leading the technical design and delivery of major storefront initiatives, from discovery to post-purchase surfaces. This role requires a deep understanding of full-stack web development, especially in building high-traffic, customer-facing commerce or consumer web surfaces.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end technical design and delivery for major Storefront initiatives — spanning discovery, browse, PDP, cart, checkout, and post-purchase surfaces — from architecture through production.
- Partner closely with product, design, and data science to shape roadmap priorities and translate business goals into scalable, well-scoped engineering plans.
- Drive technical standards and consistency across the Storefront codebase in areas including performance, observability, testing, and maintainability.
- Proactively identify and resolve systemic engineering gaps — performance bottlenecks, reliability risks, and scaling constraints — before they become incidents.
- Mentor and grow senior engineers through design reviews, code review, pairing, and direct coaching; actively invest in the technical development of the team.
- Define and drive adoption of best practices across frontend architecture, API design, and experimentation frameworks.
- Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to ensure the Storefront stack is built on reliable, well-instrumented foundations.
- Drive alignment with engineering leadership and cross-functional counterparts on technical direction, tradeoffs, and delivery milestones.
Requirements
- You have excellent computer science fundamentals.
- You have 8+ years of full-stack web development experience, with deep expertise in building high-traffic, customer-facing commerce or consumer web surfaces.
- You have strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and React; experience with server-side rendering frameworks (Next.js or equivalent) is a plus.
- You have experience building and maintaining highly reliable distributed web applications that operate at scale.
- You have demonstrated ability to drive large technical initiatives end-to-end: scoping, sequencing work, aligning stakeholders, and landing impact across quarters.
- You have a track record of raising engineering quality on a team — through standards, tooling, documentation, or mentorship — not just shipping features.
- You have knowledge of design principles, fundamentals of frontend and distributed system architecture, quality processes, and estimation techniques.
- You have experience with A/B testing frameworks and data-driven experimentation.
- You are an advocate for maintaining the highest standards in terms of code quality, latency, and observability.
- You understand the hustle of a startup and are good at handling ambiguity.
- You can effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- You are a curious, quick learner, scrappy, and someone who loves to experiment.
