Staff Engineer - Java/AWS, Paze

Responsibilities

• Ensures platform architecture meets growth, monitoring, and alerting goals.
• Leads deep, complex, and high-risk technical projects.
• Makes the right trade-offs with stakeholders.
• Mentors junior team members.
• Stays current with industry trends and innovations.
• Designs and develops features to enhance core product offerings.
• Manages source code using Git.
• Queries platform data using SQL-based databases.
• Works on complex Java Web Services using Spring Boot.
• Tracks sprint work in Jira and documents complex details in Confluence.
• Builds automated tests alongside sprint work, integrating into CI/CD pipeline.
• Submits pull requests and integrates review feedback from the team.
• Supports risk management and data protection.

Requirements

Candidates must independently possess the eligibility to work in the United States at the date of hire. This position is ineligible for employment visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

• Education and experience typically obtained through completion of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of related industry experience.
• Advanced proficiency in Java.
• Very good debugging, troubleshooting, and low-level optimization skills.
• Proficient with Git source control.
• Familiarity with writing automated tests.
• Advanced proficiency with SQL.
• Advanced proficiency in RESTful service design.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Able to collaborate with stakeholders and make the right trade-off decisions.
• Able to use critical thinking skills and leverage relationships to influence decisions.

Skills

• Spring / Spring Boot framework.
• Event-based programming, multi-threading, memory management, kernel/user mode, fault tolerance, distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud.
• REST or SOAP services.
• Familiarity with common data formats like XML, JSON, YAML, etc.
• NoSQL experience (Redis, HBASE, AeroSpike, etc.).
• Experience with Kafka.
• Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes.
• FinTech experience is highly beneficial.

Benefits

The base pay scale for this position in Phoenix, AZ/Chicago, IL/Washington, DC in USD per year is $124,000 - $165,000. Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits, including:
