Staff Engineer - Java/AWS, Paze

Responsibilities

• Ensures platform architecture meets growth, monitoring, and alerting goals.
• Leads complex, high-risk technical projects and communicates effectively about them.
• Makes informed decisions and mentors junior team members.
• Stays updated with industry trends through education and company training.
• Designs and develops features to enhance core product offerings.
• Manages source code using Git.
• Queries platform data using SQL-based databases.
• Works on complex Java Web Services using Spring Boot.
• Tracks sprint work in Jira and documents complex details in Confluence.
• Builds automated tests and integrates them into the CI/CD pipeline.
• Submits pull requests and incorporates feedback from the team.
• Supports risk management and data protection.

Requirements

• Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or related field; 10+ years of related industry experience.
• Java proficiency: Advanced proficiency required.
• Debugging and troubleshooting: Very good skills.
• Source control: Proficient with Git.
• Data querying: Familiarity with SQL.
• Service design: Advanced proficiency with RESTful services.
• Testing: Strong understanding of automated testing.
• Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Decision-making: Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and make trade-offs.

Qualifications

• Physical requirements: Normal office environment, sedentary work, occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
• Technical skills: Spring / Spring Boot framework, event-based programming, multi-threading, memory management, kernel/user mode, fault tolerance, distributed systems, cloud experience, REST or SOAP services, familiarity with data formats like XML, JSON, YAML, NoSQL (Redis, HBASE, AeroSpike), Kafka, Docker/Kubernetes, FinTech experience.

Pay

The base pay scale for this position in Phoenix, AZ/Chicago, IL/Washington, DC is $124,000 - $165,000 per year. Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.
