Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Staff (Civil/Geotechnical) Engineer to join our Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Tukwila, WA. About the role

The Staff (Civil/Geotechnical) Engineer performs testing, project-specific observations, and site assessments under general supervision. The schedule may include some nights and weekends as needed, predominantly during traditional daytime hours.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in geotechnical field investigations, including logging soil borings, performing percolation testing, and conducting soil strength testing
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates and proposals
  • Perform engineering analysis under the guidance of a professional engineer
  • Review project plans and specifications prepared by others
  • Attend client site meetings and communicate effectively with client and project teams
  • Perform testing and inspection tasks in the field and laboratory regularly
  • Operate testing equipment, conduct testing, and provide assessment of data through reporting
  • Perform on-site observations, sample collection, and specific tests
  • Work on one or multiple projects at a time
  • May manage projects, train and oversee technicians, and review field and lab data

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering (required)
  • Knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals and soil mechanics
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written form
  • Ability to periodically work off shifts and overtime
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record
  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Ability to climb and work at heights occasionally
  • May travel overnight occasionally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate (highly preferred)
  • Experience working on DOT jobs
  • Experience performing construction materials testing
  • 3 to 5 years of construction materials testing or civil/geotechnical engineering experience

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000. Individual compensation packages are based on factors such as skill set, experience, and qualifications.
