Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Staff (Civil/Geotechnical) Engineer to join our Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Tukwila, WA. About the role
The Staff (Civil/Geotechnical) Engineer performs testing, project-specific observations, and site assessments under general supervision. The schedule may include some nights and weekends as needed, predominantly during traditional daytime hours.
Responsibilities
- Provide support in geotechnical field investigations, including logging soil borings, performing percolation testing, and conducting soil strength testing
- Assist in preparing cost estimates and proposals
- Perform engineering analysis under the guidance of a professional engineer
- Review project plans and specifications prepared by others
- Attend client site meetings and communicate effectively with client and project teams
- Perform testing and inspection tasks in the field and laboratory regularly
- Operate testing equipment, conduct testing, and provide assessment of data through reporting
- Perform on-site observations, sample collection, and specific tests
- Work on one or multiple projects at a time
- May manage projects, train and oversee technicians, and review field and lab data
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering (required)
- Knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals and soil mechanics
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written form
- Ability to periodically work off shifts and overtime
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance
- Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
- Ability to climb and work at heights occasionally
- May travel overnight occasionally
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training Certificate (highly preferred)
- Experience working on DOT jobs
- Experience performing construction materials testing
- 3 to 5 years of construction materials testing or civil/geotechnical engineering experience
Pay
The base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000. Individual compensation packages are based on factors such as skill set, experience, and qualifications.
