Job Summary
Woburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is seeking a Staff Development Coordinator to oversee and coordinate educational programs, orientation, training, and competency development for facility staff.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in the annual facility assessment to determine staff knowledge and skills.
- Identify and prioritize educational needs through a comprehensive assessment.
- Collaborate with the Compliance Officer, Administrator, Director of Nursing, and department leaders to develop an annual training plan.
- Develop and maintain educational calendars based on identified facility and regulatory requirements.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and oversee orientation programs for new personnel.
- Develop, schedule, and coordinate refresher training and ongoing education for all personnel.
- Track attendance and completion of required training to ensure compliance.
- Review educational content regularly to ensure it reflects current standards of practice, regulations, and facility policies.
- Develop or revise training materials as needed and utilize qualified outside resources when appropriate.
- Collaborate with department managers to establish and evaluate staff competencies required to meet residents' needs.
- Aid in evaluating employee competencies based on knowledge, technical skills, and behavioral requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs in collaboration with facility leadership.
- Schedule training sessions with flexibility to minimize disruption to resident care and maximize staff participation.
- Maintain accurate training records, attendance records, educational materials, speaker qualifications, and individual employee training files.
- Provide opportunities for staff to obtain continuing education credits required for maintaining certifications and licensure.
- Maintain documentation related to continuing education and employee competencies.
- Aid in developing and managing the education budget and communicate resource or equipment needs to the Administrator.
- Aid in developing the Nurse Aide Training Curriculum, when applicable, and submit required materials to the appropriate state agency.
- Participate in facility, departmental, and committee meetings as required.
Compliance & Resident Safety
- Treat all residents with dignity and respect while promoting and protecting their rights.
- Maintain compliance with all facility policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of protected health information in verbal, written, and electronic communications.
- Follow infection control, safety, and hygiene policies and procedures.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, misappropriation of property, or mistreatment of residents immediately according to facility policy.
- Report noncompliance, confidentiality breaches, retaliation, and discrimination to the appropriate personnel.
- Participate in emergency preparedness, life-safety drills, and required emergency training.
- Report work-related injuries, illnesses, and occupational exposures according to facility policy.
- Complete all required training and competency evaluations as a condition of employment.
- Remain current on professional standards, regulations, laws, and best practices through continuing education, professional development, seminars, and relevant publications.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in staff development, employee education, nursing education, healthcare training, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care environment preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to develop, coordinate, and maintain multiple training programs and schedules.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, staff competencies, and compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, department managers, and employees.
