About the Role

Under the supervision of the Director of Spiritual Care and Mission, the Professional Chaplain provides ministry in a healthcare setting to patients, families, and staff, making tangible God’s grace and presence in the midst of their present circumstances. As a trained professional, the Chaplain offers a place of safety, free of judgment, prejudice, and discord, journeying with others through active listening and affirmation as they share their stories.

When deeper issues are revealed, the Chaplain helps individuals discover how God has manifested Himself in their unique personal path, assisting in integrating spiritual and emotional issues brought on by health crises. The Chaplain encourages those they minister to search for new insights of self and a deeper God consciousness within themselves.

The Chaplain’s role extends to education and leadership, nurturing the heart and soul of our healthcare organization. By living out the core values and mission of St. Mary’s Medical Center through spirituality grounded in God’s Word, the Chaplain daily offers God’s healing presence. They shape and address broader needs, creating an environment that embodies a holistic approach to healing—body, mind, and spirit—a cornerstone of St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Responsibilities

• Provide spiritual care and ministry to patients, families, and staff in a healthcare setting.
• Create a safe, nonjudgmental space for individuals to share their stories through active listening and affirmation.
• Help individuals explore and integrate spiritual and emotional issues arising from health crises.
• Encourage self-reflection and deeper awareness of God’s presence in personal experiences.
• Engage in educational and leadership activities that nurture the spiritual well-being of the healthcare organization.
• Uphold and embody the core values and mission of St. Mary’s Medical Center through daily actions and spiritual guidance.
