Staff Backend Engineer - Second Horizon | US | Remote

About the role

This role will lead work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery, working across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions.

The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a Technical Services environment. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available. Compensation: $174,986 – $209,983 annually.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement core backend services for context management
• Define architecture for a scalable, multi-tenant SaaS solution
• Build APIs for AI agents and internal applications
• Collaborate with teams on reliable, practical tradeoffs
• Instrument services with comprehensive observability metrics
• Shape technical direction and architecture for new product areas
• Communicate effectively across dynamic teams
• Take ownership of AI-driven solutions to ensure scalability and alignment with user needs

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building production-grade software systems
• Proficiency with AI technologies and frameworks
• Experience with LLMs and prompt engineering
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Experience using observability tools for system behavior troubleshooting
