Staff Attorney

A nonprofit legal services organization based in San Rafael, CA is seeking a Staff Attorney to join its growing immigration practice on a contract-to-hire basis. This attorney will provide direct immigration legal services to underserved members of the local community while supporting the continued development of a community-based immigration services program. The organization has the bandwidth to provide training and mentorship, making this an excellent opportunity for a recently barred, mission-driven attorney who gained substantive immigration experience through prior legal work, clinics, internships, externships, or similar settings and is committed to developing a career in immigration law and public-interest legal services. ResponsibilitiesProvide immigration legal services to low-income and underserved immigrant community members.Conduct client interviews, factual analysis, legal research, and case assessment.Support immigration legal matters through client consultation, legal research, case assessment, and other substantive immigration work based on client and community needs.Support matters involving immigration proceedings, including removal-related matters.Participate in community-based outreach, intake, legal education, and clinic events.Spend one onsite day per week providing services at a community partner location in Novato.Work collaboratively with supervising attorneys, legal staff, community partners, volunteers, and interns to deliver high-quality client services.Assist with the continued development and implementation of the organization's immigration legal services program.Maintain accurate case and client records and provide information necessary for program, grant, and organizational reporting.Participate in relevant training, professional development, community events, and immigration-related programming. Active membership in good standing with a U.S. State Bar.Demonstrated immigration law experience or substantive exposure; recently barred attorneys with relevant pre-bar immigration experience are encouraged to apply.Experience with or exposure to removal proceedings is preferred.Genuine interest in building a career in immigration law and serving immigrant communities.Commitment to public-interest legal services and working with underserved populations.Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and client communication skills.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a close-knit legal team.Comfortable participating in community-facing legal services, outreach, intake, and clinic work.Ability to work onsite three days per week, including two days in San Rafael and one day in Novato.Reliable transportation for required onsite and community-based work.If you are a recently barred, mission-driven attorney looking to build your career in immigration and public-interest law, please email your resume to nathalie(period)riddell(at)RobertHalf(period)com for immediate consideration!
