About the Role
Connecticut Legal Rights Project (CLRP) is seeking a Connecticut-licensed attorney with a demonstrated interest in public interest law to represent patients at state-operated facilities in Middletown, Bridgeport, New Haven, and Hartford. This position requires an in-person presence on most days and may involve statewide travel based on organizational needs.
CLRP is a statewide non-profit organization that provides legal assistance to low-income adults with mental health conditions, focusing on their treatment and civil rights. The role involves representing clients on locked units at state-operated psychiatric hospitals, advocating for their expressed preferences, and handling case analysis, litigation, and strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Provide zealous advocacy for clients in state-operated psychiatric facilities.
- Conduct case analysis, litigation, and strategic decision-making in collaboration with CLRP’s legal director.
- Prioritize and manage workload, including representation in state and federal court.
- Document legal work through efficient data entry.
- Maintain attention to detail and demonstrate excellent writing and advocacy skills.
Requirements
- Active license to practice law in Connecticut.
- Demonstrated interest in public interest law.
