About the role

This role is primarily remote within the state of Nevada, except for required appearances. You will handle a caseload of workers’ compensation matters, conduct depositions, and represent Liberty Mutual and its policyholders at workers’ compensation hearings. You will also interact with Liberty Mutual’s Workers’ Compensation claims organization.

Responsibilities

  • Use Litigation Protocols to develop and revise appropriate legal strategy for discovery, investigation, handling, and trial/hearing of cases or matters.
  • Appear before the Workers Compensation Board, conduct depositions, draft and file summations, appeals, and rebuttals.
  • Research applicable law; draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs, and opinions as required.
  • Conduct settlement negotiations if requested.
  • Advise, communicate, and confer with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients, rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and advice.
  • Maintain good relations and communications with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients.
  • Remain current with developments in the law; understand medical, scientific, construction, products, engineering, or similar issues and defenses involved with cases.
  • Prepare and conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims, or other departments as required.
  • Provide daily direction and guidance to junior attorneys.
  • Understand and creatively use technology; apply technology to the process of law to improve quality and reduce cost.
  • Act as a team or group leader for an assigned group handling workers compensation cases.
  • Interface with Home Office Legal department.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in Nevada and in good standing; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful attorney experience, with workers’ compensation experience required.
  • Experience with settlement conferences, expedited hearings, and conducting depositions; trial experience preferred.
  • Proven experience managing moderately complex litigation with demonstrated success in achieving favorable outcomes.
  • General knowledge of insurance law, workers’ compensation, and/or No Fault law.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys and legal staff.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
  • Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with all regulatory and professional standards.

Pay

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Compensation includes base salary and a yearly performance bonus, with the bonus amount discussed during the interview process.
