About the role
Staff Attorney is responsible for providing routine legal services in support of daily operations of assigned business unit(s) under direction of Managing Counsel, Counsel and the AVP of Denial Escalation and Legal Resolution. Responsibilities may include legal research, drafting and negotiation, as well as analysis of outcomes and operational results. The attorney is responsible to dispute payers in overturning inappropriate denials and resolving underpayments with payers for providers assigned in a timely manner. If not successful, an option to route the matter to arbitration or litigation may be an option. Support staff is available to assist the attorney in their payer disputes to be able to resolve claims timely.
Responsibilities
- Legal research and analysis of regulations, documents and policies
- Review and negotiate effective resolution of assigned matters
- Assist in development of policies and guidance
- Work with legal and business team members to support accurate and timely documentation of status on assigned matters
- Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- JD required
- Minimum 3 years legal experience (relevant business experience may substitute with Supervisor approval)
- License to practice law in good standing
Skills
- Legal & Healthcare Experience – legal experience including some understanding of healthcare terminology and accounts receivable processes
- Strategic Analysis & Tactical Execution - ability to make thoughtful and efficient decisions based on analysis/review; ability to deploy and manage processes in support of operational goals
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills - communicates clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing; utilizes proper punctuation, correct spelling and ability to transcribe accurately; able to work effectively with other employees, leadership and external parties
- Customer orientation - builds and maintains long-term business and legal relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations and maintaining high ethics in all activities
- Organization & PC Skills – proactively and effectively manages resources balancing multiple priorities; demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and others as required
- Basic Skills – demonstrates attention to detail and ability to organize, problem-solve, and perform and track multiple tasks accurately in short timeframes; ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple demands; ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player; perform basic mathematical calculations; balance and reconcile figures; punctuate properly; spell correctly and transcribe accurately
