About the role
The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH) seeks two (2) Staff Attorney 2 positions to join their dynamic team. The positions involve developing, negotiating, and presenting cases related to healthcare and environmental professionals and entities.
Responsibilities
Reviewing complaints and triaging case files
Interviewing witnesses
Drafting motions and statements of charges
Holding compliance conferences
Preparing exhibits
Negotiating consent orders
Presenting at formal administrative hearings before licensing boards and hearing officers
Requirements
Two (2) years of experience in the practice of law
Experience researching, interpreting, and applying complex statutes, regulations, and case law
Experience with pretrial litigation, including reviewing discovery, drafting motions, and interviewing witnesses
Experience negotiating complex settlements
Experience drafting persuasive legal memoranda and briefs
Experience providing legal advice to non-legal staff
Qualifications
Incumbents must be admitted to practice law in the State of Connecticut.
Skills
Considerable knowledge of legal principles, practices, and procedures in Connecticut; legal research techniques; the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act; and the ability to interpret and apply relevant state and federal laws, statutes, regulations, and legislation; relevant agency policies and procedures; knowledge of the rules of evidence; criminal and constitutional law and legislative process; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to apply judicial decisions to the interpretation of statutes; comprehend, analyze, and organize technical data and coordinate elements of legal cases.

Pay
Salary calculations are not necessarily comparable from one of the three branches of state government (i.e., Executive, Legislative, Judicial) to the other.
Schedule
Monday - Friday; Full-time, First Shift; Work Hours: 40 hours per week, 8:00am - 4:30pm; May have the opportunity for a partial telework schedule.
