Staff Archaeologist
About the role
HELIX Environmental Planning is seeking a Staff Archaeologist to join our NorCal Cultural Resources team. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in both field and office settings and wants hands-on experience supporting complex cultural resource projects across Northern and Central California.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and support archaeological surveys and construction monitoring
- Complete CHRIS records searches and historic map/aerial analyses
- Prepare DPR site records and update forms using GPS data, photos, and field notes
- Assist with cultural resources technical reports and study summaries
- Congnorate Native American tribal outreach under senior staff guidance
- Deliver Worker Environmental Awareness Trainings focused on cultural sensitivity
Work Location & Schedule
In-office position with frequent field assignments. Fieldwork may require multi-day or multi-week travel to remote locations. Projects primarily in Northern and Central California.
Pay
$30–$36 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field
- 3+ years of professional CRM experience (field school may substitute for one year)
- Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience with archaeological survey, documentation, and DPR forms
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field
- Experience with CEQA and Section 106 compliance
- Strong background in Northern and Central California archaeology
