Staff Agile Product Owner

This position requires being on-site in either Morrisville, North Carolina or Fairfax, Virginia and does not support remote or hybrid work. Relocation assistance may be available. An active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance and U.S. citizenship are required at the time of application. This role involves 10% travel and is contingent upon verification of current/active clearance, program access, and funding of an anticipated award.

About the Role

Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is seeking an Agile Product Owner to join the Payload & Ground Software Engineering organization supporting a Ground program. This in-ward facing technical planning and execution Lead will set the strategic vision for the software team’s technical execution, oversee the technical roadmap, and ensure closure of epics. The Agile Product Owner will represent Product Management and the voice of customers on the Agile development team, collaborating with Product Managers to define work for review, commitment, and execution within defined periods. Responsibilities include prioritizing key work areas during program increments, ensuring the team understands feature and user story intent and requirements, and aligning the team on acceptance criteria. The role requires a strong understanding of the Agile Product Owner role and technical experience developing and fielding command and control systems (TT&C, Flight Dynamics, etc.) for Space Systems.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic vision for technical execution of the software team and serve as authority over the team’s technical roadmap and closure of epics.
• Represent Product Management and the voice of customers on the Agile development team.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to define work for the integrated team to review, commit, and execute within a defined period.
• Prioritize key areas of work during a program increment.
• Ensure the software development team understands the intent and requirements of feature and user story definitions.
• Align the team on all acceptance criteria.
• Represent customer interests and continuously dictate team backlog priorities.
• Present and conduct demos of software products to users, leadership, and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Minimum years of relevant experience:
  • 12 years with a completed Bachelor’s degree,
  • 10 years with a completed Master’s degree,
  • 8 years with a completed PhD,
  • 14 years with an Associate’s degree in software engineering, or
  • 16 years of relevant software engineering experience in lieu of a degree (High School diploma or equivalent required).
• 3+ years’ experience working in a software Agile delivery framework.
• 3+ years of experience with product lifecycles for new and existing products.
• 2+ years of product roadmap development experience.
• Experience converting technical and business requirements into Epics, Features, and User Stories.
• Demonstrated communication skills and visionary approach to business, user experience, and technical aspects of product development.
• Experience with Atlassian tool suite (Jira and Confluence).
• Technical experience developing and fielding command and control systems (TT&C, Flight Dynamics, etc.) for Space Systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Product Owner certification or other major Agile certification.
• Experience with both COTS solutions and custom application development.
• Experience as a Scrum Master.
• Experience leading or supporting distributed teams.
• Experience as a software developer to better interact with and direct the team.
• Knowledge of container security best practices.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, CloudFormation, etc.).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar.
• Solid understanding of Kubernetes (Helm charts, service discovery, autoscaling, etc.).
• Knowledgeable with Python.

Pay

Primary salary range: $169,000.00 – $253,600.00. The final offer considers scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and shared company results. Vice Presidents or Directors may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
