Staff Accountant - Empire Homes

This role is located on site in the Austin, TX division office at 3737 Executive Center Drive, St 200, Austin, TX 78731.

About the role

The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of a residential homebuilding organization by maintaining general ledger accounts, performing reconciliations, tracking construction and land development costs, supporting month-end close activities, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role partners closely with construction, purchasing, and operations teams to provide timely financial information and maintain compliance with accounting policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform general accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and maintenance of accounting records in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
• Monitor and account for homebuilding and land development job costs by reviewing invoices, reconciling project cost reports, investigating variances, and ensuring accurate cost allocations.
• Assist with forecasting, financial analysis, and profitability reporting to support operational and business decision-making.
• Support compliance, audit, tax, and internal control activities by maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with Construction, Purchasing, Land Development, and Operations teams to resolve accounting issues, provide financial insights, and support process improvements and system enhancements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 1-3 years of accounting experience; homebuilding, construction, or real estate experience preferred.
• Understanding of job costing and construction accounting principles.
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
