About the Role
The Staff Accountant performs accounting tasks and participates in projects related to preparing, reconciling, and explaining the profit/loss for fresh operations.
Responsibilities
- Downloads Sales and Purchases Data from Adage to reconcile to the inventory database.
- Ensures accuracy of pounds received from other locations by evaluating short weights and over weights.
- Evaluates data to ensure correct yield information.
- Verifies accuracy of sales and purchases pricing to prevent over and under billing.
- Evaluates outside sales claims on short weights, price adjustments, and quality adjustments to allocate correct funds back to departments.
- Summarizes sales and purchases by department for metric reports and weekly profit/loss estimates.
- Performs inventory valuations on finished product, raw material, packaging, condiments, etc.
- Bills and reconciles inter-company sales transactions.
- Creates journal entries for Sales, Purchasing, and Inventory transactions at month-end and balances general ledger accounts.
- Manages sales commission and freight accruals.
- Inputs Sizing Department production data into spreadsheets to report yields and throughputs for Operations.
- Analyzes variance between actual and standard variables in the cost model (yields, trim values, meat costs, processing costs) to explain profit and loss of further processing departments (Sizing/Marination).
- Manages projects for data distribution and report development using spreadsheets and databases.
- Forecasts monthly profit and loss.
- Determines raw material requirements based on finished product specifications for the annual budget.
- Researches and analyzes Agristats.
- Periodically observes month-end inventory counts.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Accounting Supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of relevant accounting experience with strong knowledge of accounting principles and concepts.
- Experience in Poultry or Food Manufacturing environment preferred.

- Fluent in English with excellent spelling, proofreading, and grammatical skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office/Excel.

- Advanced math skills to calculate yields and metrics.
- Resolves discrepancies between General Ledger and Spreadsheet balances.
- Manages multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and prioritizes work accordingly.

- Ability to read, understand, and interpret data, drawing logical conclusions.
- Resolves problems involving variable and fixed data.
- Applies critical thinking skills in both standardized and non-routine situations.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs and occasionally lifts up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks throughout the facility, including over 150,000 square feet.
- Frequently walks in a defined work area within the facility.
- Frequently stoops and bends to file reports.
- Frequently uses visual skills to read numbers and details in small print, as well as computerized data and payroll records.
- Frequently talks and receives auditory information.
- Frequently uses fine finger and hand manipulation skills to handle paperwork and operate computers and adding machines.
